Father's Day - a special day

Just like Mother's Day, Father's Day is celebrated in many countries. This a day for us to express our appreciation to our fathers for their love, care and concern.

Father's Day was first celebrated in Washington, the United States of America. In 1996, the President of the United States declared the third Sunday of June as Father's Day. In 1972, President Richard Nixon made Father's Day a national holiday.

We celebrate this special day in different ways. Some of us send flowers to our fathers. This explains why the price of flowers especially roses is very high on this day. Usually, red roses are given on Father's Day to signify that one's father is still living. Some send a greeting card to their fathers. This is a nice gesture especially if we make the card as a way of expressing our love for our father.

Some people believe in cooking a nice meal for him. This would be by the daughters. The sons prefer to treat their fathers to a nice dinner in an expensive restaurant.

Father's Day has become an important day to convey our gratitude to our fathers and all the man who act as a father figure. Besides fathers, all grandfathers and uncles should be honoured on this special day.
